Check the seller before you send the deposit
Fake dealers advertise cars, pickups, tractors and farm equipment at prices that look too good to pass up. Once a wire or Zelle payment goes out, it is almost never coming back. Search the phone number or website first. It takes ten seconds.
Try a phone number like (555) 010-0142, a website, or an email address.

How to check a seller in three steps
- 1
Get it in writing
Ask for the business name, phone, website, street address and the VIN or serial number before you talk money. A real dealer sends these without fuss.
- 2
Search each detail separately
Scammers rename their companies every few weeks but reuse phone numbers, photos and website templates. Look up the number and the domain one at a time.
- 3
Never wire for something unseen
See the vehicle or machine in person, or use an inspection service you found yourself. Never pay through an "escrow" or shipping company the seller suggests.

Lost money to a vehicle or equipment seller?
Filing takes about five minutes and you can stay anonymous. Every report is read by a moderator before it goes live, and it helps the next buyer recognise the same seller.
